I need 20 adviser volunteers to help serve as event assistants (holding room, prep room, timekeepers, doorkeepers, runners, etc.) on Sunday, July 1. I need people for the following times:

· 5 people from 7:30 am – 11:30 am

· 5 people from 7:30 am – 11:00 am

· 5 people from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm

· 5 people from 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm

These must be adults (advisers, chaperones). Advisers who volunteer will receive lunch, a gift, and a ribbon.

Finally, if there are parents attending who would be willing to serve as judges on Saturday, June 30, and/or Sunday, July 1, please have them go to http://www.fbla.org/judges/judgesform.asp and fill out the Judges interest form. Advisers CANNOT serve as judges. Also, please let the parents know to NOT sign up for the events their children are entering. If a parent is willing to judge and was planning to register as a Guest, please let me know ASAP so that I can cancel the guest registration and they can use their judge nametag instead of having to pay guest registration fees.

We have prepared the following information to assist you with planning your travels to San Antonio.  This is to help provide basic information about flying and traveling.  Feel free to forward this information to your students.

You should have received ticketing information from me early Monday morning.  You will need to take that information with you to get your ticket.  IF YOU DID NOT GET THIS INFORMATION, please let me know NO LATER THAN SATURDAY so that I can resend to you.  I will be largely unavailable by phone/email beginning on Sunday due to National Board and NAP committee duties.  Because of group travel arrangements, do NOT check-in online.

Please note that Delta did not allow me to prepay the luggage fees that we had expected to be able to do so.  Therefore, you and your students traveling on our flights (who paid for the Georgia FBLA flights) will need to pay the checked luggage fees at the airport in Atlanta.  At the State Meeting on Thursday night, we will reimburse each traveler $50 in cash ($25 to cover the baggage fees on the arrival flight on June 27/28 and $25 to cover the baggage fees for the departing flight on July 3).  Each traveler will need to sign out receipt of this money.

Please remember the following required events competitors and advisers must attend (remember all times are in the Central Time Zone):

June 28, 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm – Georgia State Meeting, Conference Room 1-4 – Casual attire permitted

June 29, 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm – Opening General Session, Convention Center – Professional attire required

June 30, 5:30 pm – 6:15 pm – Southern Region Campaign Rally, Grand Hyatt Lone Star Ballroom – Professional attire required

July 2, 9:00 am – 10:45 am – Southern Region Voting Session, Grand Hyatt Lone Star Ballroom – Professional attired required

July 2, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Awards of Excellence Program, Convention Center – Professional or semiformal attire required

Rooms will not be ready until 3:00 pm.  Because of the PBL conference, we do not expect any rooms to be available early.  When you arrive, instructions will be given for luggage storage accommodation while you wait for your rooms to be ready.  We will have a Georgia FBLA alumni or state officer adviser in the lobby of the Marriott Rivercenter greeting  your arrival.  He/she will distribute all of room keys.  You will not need to go to the front desk for your keys.

Please remember that professional dress is required while competing and attending all conference functions.  Casual attire is only permitted for non-conference activities and the Georgia State meeting on the 28th.  For NLC dress code information, go tohttp://www.fbla.org/data/files/docs/fbla-pbldresscode.pdf.

Please check the Georgia FBLA Facebook page (www.facebook.com/georgiafbla) and Twitter account (#georgiafbla) for last minute travel updates.  Please also check the weather forecasts and pack accordingly.  It appears that San Antonio is going to greet us with a very warm welcome.

You are allowed one carry-on baggage item AND one personal item at no charge. Please note that ALL items must easily fit into the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. It is recommended that you pack in your personal item an mp3 player and headphones, book, magazine, tablet, or e-reader to use while on the plane. The flight to San Antonio is approximately 2.5 hours.

Approved Personal Items

You are allowed to bring ONE of the following with you on the plane as your personal item:

If you bring a personal item and a carry-on baggage item, your personal item must fit under the seat in front of you.

Carry-on Baggage Size Restrictions

Your ONE carry-on baggage item MUST meet the following size requirements:

Liquids in Carry-on Baggage

You are allowed to pack limited amounts of liquids in your carry-on baggage. The TSA defines a liquid as a liquid, gel, or aerosol. This includes toothpaste, hairspray, and hair products. Any liquids in your carry-on baggage must meet the 3-1-1 requirements:

·        Each liquid must be in a container that is 3.4 ounces (100 mL) or less by volume.

·        All carry-on liquids must fit into a 1 quart-sized clear, plastic, zip-top bag. Please use the bag that was provided for you by the GAFBLA.

·        Each passenger is allowed 1 of these bags.

Any containers of liquids larger than 3.4 ounces and any additional liquids that cannot fit into 1 bag MUST be packed in checked baggage. You may not pack any drinks in your personal item or carry-on baggage.

If you booked your flight through Georgia FBLA:  The cost of your ticket included the fee for one checked bag. If you must check a second bag, the fee is an additional $35 each way. Because Delta would not allow us to prepay for bags, you will need to pay the bag fee when you arrive at the airport HOWEVER, you will be reimbursed $50 at the Georgia State Meeting.

Checked Baggage Restrictions

·        Each checked baggage must not weigh more than 50 pounds.  The fee for a checked bag over 50 pounds is $90-175 EACH WAY.  The airlines are VERY strict about charging the extra fees for overweight luggage.

·        Measure the length, width, and height of your bag. The total of these 3 numbers should not exceed 62 inches.  The fee for an oversized checked bag is $175-300 EACH WAY.

·        Do not exceed 2 checked bags.  A third checked bag is an additional $125 EACH WAY and a fourth checked bag is an additional $200 each way.

If your bag is over 50 pounds or over 62 inches in total dimension, CHECK A SECOND BAG. $35 each way is much cheaper than $90-300 each way.

Please arrive at the airport 2 hours before your scheduled departure time.

You will be flying Delta Airlines. Follow the RED signs to parking for the South Terminal.  You will have a few options:

·        Daily Parking (covered, closest to terminal): $16/day

·        Economy Parking (not covered, next closest): $12/day

·        Park-Ride (not covered, a van will take you on a short ride to the terminal): $9/day

There are also other off-airport park and ride lots on Camp Creek Parkway.

You will NOT have a paper ticket when you arrive at the airport. You have been provided with your ticket number. Keep this number handy because you will need it to check in.

Because your flight was booked as group travel, DO NOT attempt to check in online before you arrive at the airport.

You have two options to check in once you arrive at the airport: Curbside and Kiosk

Curbside Check-in

There is no charge for using curbside check-in, but you SHOULD tip the Skycaps $1 per checked bag. If you do not want to tip, use the kiosk check-in inside the terminal.

Kiosk Check-in

The Delta check-in kiosks are located in the South Terminal.

Check the departure monitors located throughout the airport before you proceed to security to ensure that your gate has not changed.

After you’ve checked your bags, follow the signs to Main Security Check-Point.  You will be required to show your printed boarding pass and a photo ID before you’re allowed through to security.

Remember to follow all posted instructions in order to proceed through security hassle-free:

·        Remove your plastic zipped bag of liquids from your carry-on and place it in a bin.

·        All jackets and hats must be taken off and placed in the bin.

·        You must completely EMPTY your pockets and place all items in the bin or your luggage.

·        If you have any metal items on you, such as a belt, watch, or jewelry, they must be placed in the bin.

·        Remove your shoes and place them directly on the conveyor belt.

·        If you have a laptop or other large electronic item, it must be removed from its case and placed in a separate bin.  You can leave iPads and small tablets in your luggage.

·        Place your carry-on baggage item and your personal item directly on the conveyor belt.

·        Keep your printed boarding pass in your hands as you pass through the scanner.

Once you have cleared security, take the Plane Train to the correct terminal. Once you exit, take the escalator up and follow the signs to your departure gate. Again, check the monitors for any changes.

At the gate, please check in with the designated Bus Captain.  If you purchased the Ground Transportation option, your Bus Captain will have your wristband that you will need to ride the shuttles:

·        June 27, Delta Flight 1871:  Kym Johnson

·        June 28, Delta Flight 1641:  Carol Davies

·        June 28, Delta Flight 2132:  Kim White

·        June 28, Delta Flight 1790:  Linda Grooms

Do not board the plane until the Zone on your ticket is announced. Once on the plane, place your carry-on baggage in the overhead bin and place your personal item under the seat in front of you.

Once you land, head to Baggage Claim and retrieve your checked bags.

For those flying on Georgia FBLA flights:  You must be wearing your wristband to board the Georgia FBLA ground transportation shuttles.  On June 28, look for alumni Michael Gargiulo who will have a Georgia FBLA sign greeting your arrival.   On June 27, look for Monty or follow instructions from Misty/Kym Johnson on how to greet the shuttle operator.

When you arrive at the Marriott Rivercenter, there will be a Georgia FBLA representative in the lobby greeting your arrival.  Due to the PBL conference, rooms will NOT be ready until 3:00 pm.  Check in with the Georgia FBLA representative in the lobby for luggage storage accommodations.  Because the rooms have been prepaid, the Georgia FBLA representative will be distributing room keys.  You will not need to check in at the front desk.

If you ordered tickets to the Fogo de Chao meal, you will receive your wristbands at the state meeting as well as ground shuttle wristbands for the July 3 return flight.

Receipts will be delivered to the room of the adviser or designated chaperone prior to the end of NLC.

If you have a balance due, you must bring payment with you on June 28.  Do NOT mail any more payments to Smyrna/Evans.

Enjoy your flight and have a great time

at the National Leadership Conference!
